Working for Charities

When I first started out full time freelance back in October 2015, I wanted to get involved with Nelson's Journey, as I had already worked with them when I was at Heart Radio and loved them and the staff and what they did for the amazingly brave children that went to them for support and understanding.

Did quite a few marketing shoots, staff headshots and also some fundraising for them also - 100 miles on an ofo bike and the following year on a tandem!

Since getting involved, I have been approached by other charities to help them also, which has been amazing.

Nelson’s Journey

Nelson’s Journey helps bereaved children to make sense of what has happened when a loved one passes away.

They offer support but also many opportunities for those children to meet other children who have also experienced a bereavement.

Anyone who knows me, knows only too well that I have a complete love for this charity and always try to do as much as I am able to for them.

Photography, videography, 100 mile cycle rides whilst sitting on a razorblade (at least that is what it feels like after 20 miles!) and anything they need really.

I was lucky enough to be asked to be one of the 20 local businesses to each raise a minimum of £1000 within a year in 2018

Between us all, we raised over £55,000 rather than the minimum of £20,000!

We decided it would be a good idea to ride 100 miles on an ofo bike (solid tyres, 3 gears if we were lucky and what felt like it was made from solid lead!)

The follwoing year, we did 100 miles on a Tandem - since then we've been resting the legs haha!

Amber's Army

Amber’s Army is a Norfolk based family charity, aiming to ‘Create Rainbows in the Darkest of Days’ for Norfolk families who have a child with a terminal cancer diagnosis.

The charity was established in 2023 by the parents of Amber Sheehy, Jon & Amanda, in their daughter’s memory. Amber was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019, she fought like a true warrior but sadly lost her cancer battle in 2023 aged 8.

I first met Amber and her amazing family in June 2020, just after the first lockdown. She had beaten her cancer treatment and I was asked to go along and capture her ringing her 'End of treatment Bell'

Little did I know that our mutual friends Jack & Tim would be getting on board too.
I met Amber again in 2022 for the very first Amber fest which was put on by Make A Wish, as the cancer had returned and I said that I would do anything I could to capture her dreams.

Ambers Army was created by Amanda and Jon to be able to give hope to other families going through a similar situation.

I captured the second Amberfest in 2023 and also the first Ambers Army Ball, to raise money for the charity and it has become and piece of who I am today, witnessing the strength of Amber and her family go through this, but also never give up on making dreams come true.

Break

Break works across East Anglia making life better for young people on the edge of care, in care and leaving care.

We give children, young people and families the time and support they need to achieve their full potential.

Whether that’s through therapeutic services, respite breaks, providing a resilient home or support with parenting, we are committed to supporting them through whatever life has in store.

I was asked to capture the auction of the now famous GoGo trail that is put on by Wild In Art and supprts Break. The trail was the GoGo Hares and the auction was held at the Forum in Norwich, with Jake Humphrey hosting the evening and what an evening it was.

So many people turned out to enjoy the fundraising efforts of so many. The artists who put in the creative, the sponsors of each hare, the teams of people who had worked tirelessley to make sure this was a huge success and also the bidders whoreally went all out in making sure that the most amount of money was raised for such an amazing cause.

Red Balloon

RB-Norwich provides a safe and supportive learning environment for up to 40 young people from Norfolk and surrounding counties. Our Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 15:30 during term time, and students attend full-time or start on a reduced time-table and building up to full time, depending on their needs and abilities.

Students can join RB-Norwich from age 11 to 16, with those already with us able to stay to the maximum age of 17 to complete their GCSEs. Though we have sixth-form aged students with us, we are not able to offer A-levels. The highest level of education we offer is Key Stage 4 (GCSEs and equivalent).

I first got involved with Red Balloon back in 2022 when I was asked by my friend Gemma, if I could come along and capture the magic of the Carol Concert at the St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich City Centre.

Then again the following year and since then, being asked to capture the school with students to show how it benefits the students that study and learn there.

EAAA east Anglian Air Ambulance

East Anglian Air Ambulance

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a charity providing life-saving critical care 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year by air and road.

From road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests to medical emergencies, our specialist doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots bring the advanced skills, equipment and medicine directly to you or your family, in the fastest time possible.

I got asked to capture their amazing - 'Only The Brave' event and am looking forward to being able to do more for them soon.

An amazing day with amazing people, including many of the pilots and doctors, running too, to raise awareness and much needed money for the charity.
