Who am I?

I believe that a couple should feel completely at ease with their photographer. Although I have always loved photography, or more to the point, documenting everything with a camera, I have had quite a few other jobs leading up to this and to give me the confidence to be myself and be able to have fun and be in control of large groups of people and get them to do as I ask, in a light hearted fun way.

I have always had a desire to make try and make people smile! I had my first proper experience of being on stage in 1989 when I won a place in the Coca Cola Spinner (YoYo) National Final, held at Alton Towers! Hosted by the legend that was Jeremy Beadle.

I went to Performing Arts College in Kings Lynn (NORCAT) and as part of my year two final examination, I actually got a job on a holiday camp producing the shows for the team! Best experience ever as you’re spending time with the holiday makers during the day, that you are entertaining at night. I think that is where I get my love for getting to know my couples in the lead up to the big day.

Career

Although I went and worked in Mallorca for a season, my love was back in the UK and did another season at Mundesley Holiday Center and then formed an 80s band called ZOO, that actually went on to be a Steps Tribute Band called Steps Beyond! BEST JOB EVER!

We toured all over theatres and events in the UK and hotels abroad and it was absolutely magical. I actually turned down a Caribbean Cruise over Christmas because I preferred to tour the theatres in the UK! Crazy! That turned into a pop tribute concert called DreamKids which I was then producing the shows of (Audio Production, Design, Website). We also went for X-Factor back in 2005 and made it to the judges.

We didn’t get any further, but got the biggest photo in OK magazine because of our fun nature!

I then got a normal job (non entertaining) at Sony as regional trainer and this is where my love of cameras, became a passion as they had just aquired Konica Minolta and released the Sony Alpha DSLR.

After 3 years with them, I moved onto Heart Radio as a Creative Writer for local adverts, which also involved video and photography, so I was in my element!

During this time I was also in a wedding band at the weekends, as well as doing photography for a few clients and friends weddings.

That is until Jude was born and I couldn’t juggle everything so I had to take a leap of fate and go freelance, which was the best decision ever - scary, but amazing!

So my experience of having the best fun with a congregation comes from my varied entertainment experience. My approach is about capturing personalities and fun as well as the perfect moment, whether it be candid or posed. It’s all about the details and I try to look for the little things that make a big difference.

This is just a small collection of my work over the years and some of my couples who shared their experiences of having me capture their day, so you can read their experience of having me capture their day. Thank you to each of them.

Any questions, I’m always happy to offer advice so please get in touch.

Experience

Your photographer will be a ninja of their game being able to capture perfect moments for you (that’s a given) but also be able to: set up perfect moments, crowd control, arrange the confetti shots, be very nice to the vicar/registrar/celebrant/humanist, organise the groups, be a children’s entertainer, a comedian (a necessity), & be able to capture the alcohol fuelled dancemoves later on.

Your photographer will put you at ease research the venue & have back-up equipment. They'll edit each image as if it were the Mona Lisa for you to relive those memories for years to follow.

RAPPORT

Your wedding day starts waaaaaaay before the actual day and I like to get to know each couple beforehand to build a nice rapport.

I want my couples to be totally comfortable around me so my style is very much a relaxed approach.

I love to get to know them both on the pre wedding shoot and also spend time at the start of the wedding day chatting to the friends and family to work up a rapport and also get involved in the banter and fun, sometimes being the cause of the banter just to be able to capture the natural laughter that ensues

FUN

Every couple I have worked with have always had a huge lust for life. Fun is the key element here and if the couple are up for a laugh, it usually means that the congregation are too so I play up to their personalities and try to get the very best out of each moment I’m with them.

Because I'm a relaxed and easy going person, I don’t try and pose the couple. I wait for the moment after they’ve kissed, the smile that follows; that is the real love shining through just in that moment in time.
I sometimes ask the couple to look at each other and 99% of the time, they laugh which is my opportunity to capture just that; happiness

A few images from my past

Every year, I take Jude (& now RiffRaff also) to a freshly baled field to capture him dressed up in whatever he loves at that moment in time.

2024 will be the 11th year and space on my wall for all the photos are becoming less & less! 😉
